How to Choose Bed Sheets

Start With Your Mattress Size

Sheets aren't as forgiving as a quilt cover. Unlike a doona, which has a little wiggle room, your sheet size needs to match your mattress exactly. A queen mattress needs queen-sized sheets, full stop. Get this right and your fitted sheet stays put all night instead of popping off at the corners.

Match the Fabric to the Season

For winter, reach for our thicker fabrics. Flannelette traps warmth in every fibre, so there's no cold-bed shock when you climb in. In summer, our linen sheets handle up to 20% of their weight in moisture before feeling damp, which is exactly what you want on a warm Australian night. Bamboo and cotton sateen sit comfortably in between, working well however the season shifts

Sheets Colour and Finish: Cotton vs Sateen

Love colour? Our classic cotton sets are brilliant all year round, with a smooth, soft feel you’ll love night after night. For a touch of luxury, try our sateen sheets — they've got this gorgeous subtle sheen that adds a modern touch.

Best Bed Sheets Australia

Best sheets for winter nights: Flannelette sheets.

Flannelette is brushed for warmth, it traps heat in every fibre so you're never met with a cold bed shock, a favourite once the temperature drops.

Best sheets for hot sleepers and warm nights: Linen Sheets.

They manage moisture well, absorbing up to a fifth of their own weight before feeling damp, which keeps you comfortable through a humid summer night.

Best sheets for everyday, year-round comfort: Bamboo and cotton sateen

Breathable enough for summer, substantial enough for winter, and low-fuss to look after.

Best sheets for a considered upgrade: Vintage Washed Linen.

It's two to three times more durable than standard materials, gets softer with every wash, and naturally resists wrinkles, a genuine investment piece for anyone who loves the look and feel of linen.

Bed Sheets Sizing

Whether you need king single bed sheets, double bed sheets or queen bed sheets, match your mattress to the exact dimensions below rather than rounding up or down.

Thread count only tells the full story within the same fabric. A 500TC cotton and a 165GSM linen aren't measured the same way, so let warmth and feel guide you as much as the number. If you run hot overnight, Bamboo Cotton or linen breathe better than a dense cotton weave. If a wrinkle-easy, low-fuss sheet matters most, stick with anything marked Easy Care.

Bed Sheets FAQs

Do I need a flat sheet as well as a fitted sheet?

Not necessarily, it depends on how you like to make your bed. Whilst most Australian bed sheets come as sets with both, the difference is your fitted sheet's elasticated edges hug the mattress and protect it, whereas a flat sheet (or top sheet) sits between you and the quilt, perfect for summer nights and keeping the quilt cover cleaner for longer while adding a hotel-style layer. If you'd rather skip the flat sheet, we offer fitted sheets separately.

What does thread count mean for sheet sets?

The thread count tells you how many threads are woven into each square inch of fabric

• Higher thread counts create a softer, smoother feel against your skin
• These sheets are perfect for sensitive skin and keeping cosy on cold nights
• Lower thread counts offer better breathability, making them ideal for summer
• Our Stonewashed Cotton and Vintage Washed Linen naturally soften with each wash

Can linen sheets be used in summer?

Yes, linen is one of the better fabrics for warm nights. It can absorb up to 20% of its own weight in moisture before feeling damp, which is exactly what you want in a hot Australian summer. Our Vintage Washed Linen also gets softer with every wash, so it only improves over time.

What's included in an Adairs sheet set?

Every set includes a fitted sheet, a flat sheet and a pillowcase (two pillowcases for Double sizes and up). If you'd rather mix and match, we’ve got separate pieces available too.

What's the difference between a classic cotton and a sateen sheet?

Our classic cotton sets are breathable and reliable year-round. Sateen sheets have a gorgeous subtle sheen for a more modern, luxe finish on the bed.
